Opened in May 2001, the Robert A. Brown Center for Youth is a shelter, detention center, and teen transitional living program for boys. Named after a retired Delta County Judge and champion of youth services, the Center is a joint project involving numerous public agencies, including law enforcement, municipalities, social service agencies, and counties in the Seventh Judicial District. The district encompasses Montrose, Delta, San Miguel, Gunnison, Hinsdale, and Ouray counties. The Brown Center allows local agencies to temporarily place male youth out-of-home, providing therapeutic structure and services while maintaining close ties to school and family.

Once the youth transitions back into the community they may become involved with the Aftercare Program to provide support for both the youth and their family. The Aftercare Program assists with making the transition back into society a successful one.
